网飞公司 Expands Agreement with PBS, Following 亚马逊 Announcement
Children's programming is a hot area for the growing subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) market, 和两个 网飞公司 and 亚马逊 have recently signed deals with PBS that include much for young viewers. 今天, 网飞公司 announced an expanded agreement with PBS that makes it the exclusive SVOD host for "Super Why!" sometime in 2014. The agreement covers 网飞公司 U.S. and Canada, and includes other children's series, including "Wild Kratts," "Caillou," and "Arthur." It's not all kid stuff, 虽然, as the agreement brings Ken Burns documentaries and the series "Nova" and "Secrets of the Dead" to 网飞公司. 今年秋天, 网飞公司 will introduce North American audiences to the acclaimed ITV mystery series "The Bletchley Circle."
Just last week, 亚马逊 announced a PBS deal for its SVOD service, Prime Instant Video. The announcement includes much overlap in both children's and adult programming with the 网飞公司 agreement. 亚马逊, 然而, scooped up the jewel in the crown, exclusive SVOD rights to "Downton Abbey," which has become a breakout hit. 亚马逊 is currently the exclusive home for the show's third season, and will become the exclusive home for all its seasons, past and future, later this year.
网飞公司 made news last month when it lost SVOD rights to children's programming from Viacom, including "Dora the Explorer" and "SpongeBob SquarePants," only to have 亚马逊 quickly acquire them.
