Qwilt Debuts Transparent Caching for Live Video
Online viewers are embracing live events, but often leave in frustration when playback isn't as smooth as broadcast television. Last year's Super Bowl streaming was often poor, 例如, and the one before that was a large-scale live streaming failure. To address the problem, transparent caching specialist Qwilt has introduced Qwilt Live Stream Cache, a software solution that enhances the company's QB-Series Video Fabric Controllers. The solution replaces the existing unicast model, where each viewer has a dedicated HTTP session, and replaces it with a shared stream model. Qwilt Live Stream Cache is able to identify popular live streams on its own, then store those streams to the controller's FastCache. This dedicated storage area has been optimized to deliver live streams quickly. 下一个, the Qwilt Live Stream Cache creates a local live video transmission point for each area, letting a large group of viewers share a single video stream.
Existing video delivery technology can't keep up with the growing demand for live content, notes Qwilt CEO and co-founder Alon Maor. This marks the first comprehensive solution for video delivery that satisfies quality of experience and performance demands, 他补充说.
Qwilt announced in July, 2013, that it had taken in $16 million in Series C funding which it planned to use to scale operations for global customers.
